Backstreet Billy landed his first career success at Ffos Las on Sunday. The eight-year-old Presenting gelding has been lightly raced to date but he has clearly taken to fences and enjoyed the heavy ground.

Backstreet Billy, owned by Peter Bonner, raced with great enthusiasm in the early stages of the 2m 5f contest and took up the running under Tom Scudamore leaving the back straight. He quickly drew clear of the field and stayed on in resolute fashion to score by an impressive 15 lengths.

Backfromthecongo recorded owner John Jackson's 21st winner trained by Richard at Hereford on Wednesday. The 11-y-o Bob Back gelding galloped relentlessly over the extended 3m 1½f to land the spoils by 3½ lengths from Guydus.

Also owned by Des Cound and Tony Compton, Backfromthecongo took up the running with half a circuit to run and never looked back. The enterprising ride by Richard Johnson secured the victory a long way from home.

Poste Knocks in a Hat-trick at Haydock

Knock A Hand enjoyed the heavy ground at Haydock Park once more to land the spoils in the Turf TV Fixed Brush Hurdle over two and half miles. Now a seven-year-old, Knock A Hand showed extreme stamina and speed to take the race from Sydney Paget.

Le Beau Bai, trained by Richard Lee and ridden by Charlie Poste, edged out Giles Cross after a thrilling duel in the Coral Welsh National. The pair had the race to themselves turning for home and it seemed Giles Cross (15-2) was set to go one place better than when second last year.

He was still in front over the third last but soon began to tire and despite being under pressure, the 10-1 winner rallied. Le Beau Bai headed his rival going to the penultimate fence and stayed on dourly to win by seven lengths. It was a further 15 lengths back to Cappa Bleu in third with Bench Warrent (50-1) fourth.

Lee said: "It's a race I've always wanted to win. "We didn't run in it last year, but he was third two years ago and it all went to plan this time.

"I was worried the ground wasn't going to be soft enough for him but Charlie got some great leaps out of him.

"We train on the Welsh borders to come here and win the Welsh National is fantastic. It's a fairytale."
